Back Design
In my Design and Production course, the goal of this project was to design a personal business card that functioned as both a professional tool and a reflection of my design identity.
The process began with a formal proposal and project schedule, requiring me to outline materials, dimensions, and a printing plan. To gather inspiration, I researched a wide range of business card designs, focusing on modern, minimal layouts that emphasized clarity. After creating several sketches, I presented my concepts for feedback from both peers and my professor. Through one-on-one meetings, I refined my design choices, including paper stock and printing methods, to ensure a professional finish.
The initial phase of the project involved researching existing business card designs to gain inspiration and identify effective design strategies. I examined a range of professional examples, focusing on layout, typography, and use of color. Based on this research, I developed multiple sketches that were subsequently reviewed by my professor. After receiving feedback, one design was approved for further refinement. Individual consultations with my professor then addressed material selection and the choice of printing company, ensuring the final product met both professional and practical standards.
The concept for my business card centered on a modern, minimalistic topographic design, reflecting my focus on contemporary aesthetics as a graphic designer. I selected a bold sans-serif typeface to ensure clarity and readability, while the color palette of light beige and black provided a clean, professional contrast. The layout emphasized both the topographic elements and my personal logo, creating a composition that was visually engaging yet straightforward. These design choices reinforced the card’s effectiveness by maintaining a balance of simplicity, boldness, and professionalism.
The personal business card project stood out to me because it produced a practical tool that can be utilized in my future career. It also allowed me to create a design that was both personal and representative of the skills I developed throughout my undergraduate education. If I were to approach this project again, I would enhance the typographic elements with greater detail to further strengthen the overall design.
