Final Draft
1st Draft
This project was completed in my Design Strategies & Collaboration class, where the goal was to create a fully developed book cover for a chosen story. After selecting our stories, we analyzed their genres and gathered the exact dimensions of a physical bookâincluding the front and back covers, spine, flaps, and interior pages. From there, we designed all supporting elements: a chapter spread, table of contents, legal page, summary, and author page, using a physical book as our reference for structure and layout.
I chose the story 21 Chump Street, which follows newly graduated police cadets on their first undercover assignment: a drug-heist investigation. The main character, Naomi Rodriguez, goes undercover as a high school student to catch Justin Laboy, who is suspected of selling drugs. As Justin develops feelings for Naomi and eventually asks her to prom, she ultimately witnesses him selling marijuana and completes her mission.
This project was especially challenging because each student worked with a different story, which meant developing unique concepts from scratch. It pushed me to think independently, experiment, and refine my design ideas through extensive brainstorming.
